Straight up — Phenom Rising is one of the best free evolutions FC 26 has dropped this season, and if you missed the July 10 unlock window through the Web App or console, you can still complete it by finishing the "A Star is Born Cup" objective four times. The evo caps at 94 OVR base, requires a player born after Jan 1, 2001, and pours +30 into 17 different stats — Overall +30, Acceleration +30, Sprint Speed +30, Finishing +30, Shot Power +30, Dribbling +30, Ball Control +30, Composure +30, Long Shots +30, all the way through. On the right base card, you finish with a 95 OVR winger or CAM that hits like a TOTS card. Free. No fodder. Zero coins.
Below: what the evo actually does, the eligibility fine print, our top base card picks, and the fastest path to unlock it before the 11-day window closes.
Phenom Rising is the flagship Festival of Football evolution tied to the Phenoms Team 1 launch on July 10, 2026 (17:00 UTC). It costs zero coins and zero FC Points — the evo unlocks after you complete the A Star is Born Bonus Completionist objective chain, which asks you to win the "A Star is Born Cup" four times (1 win, 2 wins, 3 wins, 4 wins are stacked mini-milestones).
You must have accessed Ultimate Team by 6:00 PM UTC on July 10, 2026, to see the evo appear in your list, and you have 11 days from launch — so roughly until July 21, 2026 — to submit an eligible card and finish the objective.
Once the base card is in the evo slot, upgrades apply immediately after you complete the tournament requirement. No sub-challenges, no fodder loop. It's the cleanest free evo path since the January PIM Refresh.
The eligibility filter is tight enough that you can't just throw any promo card in — that's a good thing, because it keeps the winning picks focused.
| Requirement | Value |
|---|---|
| Maximum Overall | 94 |
| Born After | 2001-01-01 (age 25 or younger) |
| Max PlayStyles | 10 |
| Max PlayStyles+ | 3 |
| Excluded Rarity | World Tour Silver Superstar |
The age gate is the big one — anyone born before 2001 is out, which is why the mid-tier Icon shortcut everyone tries doesn't work here. This is a wonderkid evo, not a fodder-eater.
Phenom Rising is the most stat-heavy free evo of Season 9. The final card lands at 95 OVR with +30 to every attacking attribute, capping most values at 94–96. Here's what actually applies:
Notice what's missing: no defensive or physical boosts. That's the tell — this evo is built for wingers, CAMs, and second strikers, not for center-mids who need Interceptions or CBs who need Heading. Pick a base card whose weakness is pace, shooting, or dribbling, and Phenom Rising papers over it. Pick a card whose weakness is defending, and you've wasted a slot.
The picks below are all rare gold or lower promo cards ≤94 OVR, born after 2001, and with room to eat all four bundles. We've ordered them by "how much value the evo adds" — not raw base OVR.

The obvious no-brainer. His base rare is already an 89 with elite dribbling and 4-star skills; Phenom Rising pushes him to 95 OVR with 94 Pace, 96 Shooting, and 95 Dribbling — essentially a free TOTS-tier Yamal. If you missed the launch-day Phenoms Yamal (98 OVR, ~1.1M coins on console), the evo'd base card gets you 80% of the experience for zero coins.

Born 2003, CAM/LW — hits every eligibility box. His base agility and dribbling are already the best in Bundesliga at his age; the +30 shooting bundle finally gives him the finishing to punish you inside the box. Meta after evo: sit him at LW in a 4-2-3-1 with Technical+ / Rapid+ style link, watch him carry Rivals.
The dark horse. Born 2006, base rare, sits at 82–84 OVR depending on last patch. Post-evo he's a 95 OVR box-crashing CM with Ligue 1 hybrid links to any French icon. Cheaper than a starter pack.
Born 2005, Premier League base rare. The +30 dribbling and passing bundle transforms him into a legit ball-carrier from midfield. If you play EPL hybrid, this is your engine.
Born 2002 — sneaks into eligibility by 3 weeks. Base rare already flies down the left; Phenom Rising gives him the finishing to actually convert the crosses he's whipping in. La Liga hybrid tax makes him painful to link, but the ceiling is a 95 LW for a rare gold discard.
Born 2005, CAM/RM. Weaker base than Musiala but the same profile. Best value if you already have a Real Madrid spine and want to avoid rebuilding chemistry.
Born 2006. His base rare struggles on pace (~78–80), but Phenom Rising drops a 94/94 pace bundle plus 96 Finishing on top — you end with a 95 OVR ST that runs behind the last defender. If you missed the 97 Phenoms Endrick going for 1.1M+, this is the free workaround.
Born 2004. The base rare is a 85 OVR CM with elite short passing already; post-evo he's a 95 with 95 passing, 95 dribbling — box-to-box perfection. Uses the Ligue 1 / Portugal hybrid same as Zaïre-Emery for stacking chemistry.
Wildcard pick. Yes, he's a CB, so the offensive bundle looks wasted — but at 95 OVR with 94/94 pace and 95 ball control, he becomes a ball-playing CB who can dribble out of pressure. Only pick him if you already have your winger evo'd.
Born 2008, Liga MX. The pure "hidden gem" pick — cheap on the market, links into no meta hybrid, but a 95 OVR CAM out of Liga MX is a genuine tournament flex.
The whole path is objective-gated, not fodder-gated. Here's the fastest route:
Total real cost: your time. No fodder. No packs. No coins. The catch: submitting an eligible base card locks it into the evo permanently, so if you have both a Yamal and a Musiala rare gold and can only pick one for this slot, spend an extra 30 seconds thinking about which club/nation your squad needs more.
Free. 11-day window. Turns a fodder-tier rare gold into a genuine 95 OVR shooting weapon. The only realistic reason to skip is if none of your born-after-2001 base cards fits your formation — even then, Yamal or Musiala rare gold costs 300–500 coins on the market, so buy one and evo it. This is the highest-ROI evo of Season 9 by a wide margin. Do it before July 21.
If you're planning to actually chase the Phenoms Team 1 push cards (Yamal 98, Neves 97, Endrick 97) at the same time, remember they land through packs, targeted SBCs, and the Festival of Football Token store — the objective card via A Star is Born Cup only unlocks the evolution, not a Phenoms card. Plan your coin runway accordingly: the top Phenoms cards are sitting in the 900K–1.3M range across platforms right now, and prices historically dip 15–20% around day 3 of a launch.
🎁 Stock up before Phenoms Team 2 drops July 17 — the market always spikes 24h before a launch.
