Early Grenade Crossbow Crafting Process
In Path of Exile 2, using Grenade skills can lead to incredibly interactive and enjoyable builds. However, one of the first things you need is a solid crossbow, equipped with specific modifiers that enhance your grenade skills. Thankfully, the game offers a robust crafting system that can help you create the perfect weapon.
During your campaign, you won’t need a top-tier crossbow. Instead, focus on finding a crossbow with the modifier of ‘Increased Level of Skill Gem’. Vendors across all Acts may have one, and while it’s not essential, it can significantly aid your early gameplay experience.
Materials Needed
Here’s a list of materials that will be essential for your early-game crafting:
- Orb of Transmutation
- Orb of Augmentation
- Essence of Abrasion (or Lesser Essence of Abrasion)
- Exalted Orb
- Omen of Greater Exaltation
Step-by-Step Crafting Process
Follow these steps to craft your Grenade Crossbow:
- Begin with the crossbow that has the Skill Gem level modifier. Use an Orb of Augmentation to attempt adding another modifier.
- Next, apply an Essence of Abrasion to add ‘Physical Damage’. This will also upgrade your item to ‘Rare’ status.
- For the final modification, activate an Omen of Greater Exaltation and use an Exalted Orb to add additional modifiers. You may skip the omen if it’s not available.
- A rare weapon can have six total modifiers, comprising three prefixes and three suffixes. Ensure to fill all these slots using the Exalted Orb.
Optimal mods for your final craft include:
- % Increased Physical Damage
- Level of all Projectile Skills
- Adds # to # Physical Damage
- Adds # to # Elemental Damage
- % Attack Speed
This initial crafting guide will serve you well throughout the campaign. If you can’t find a weapon with the desired modifier, buy all ‘Normal’ rarity crossbows from vendors and use an Orb of Transmutation to seek your ideal base. Alternatively, you can create a temporary character to complete the tutorial and check the vendor’s stock.
Endgame Grenade Crossbow Crafting Process
Once you have access to high-level crossbows, it’s time to craft the best-in-slot (BiS) weapon for your grenade build. Start with the Siege Crossbow, which boasts the implicit mod that allows Grenade Skills to fire an additional projectile, maximizing your firepower.
Essential Materials for Endgame Crafting
Make sure to gather the following items:
- Perfect Orb of Transmutation
- Perfect Orb of Augmentation
- Greater Essence of Abrasion
- Preserved Jawbone
- Omen of the Liege
- Omen of Sinistral Necromancy
- Exalted Orbs
- Perfect Essence of Battle
- Perfect Essence of Haste
Crafting Steps for Your Ideal Grenade Crossbow
Begin your crafting process with these steps:
- Utilize the Perfect Orb of Transmutation to obtain %Increase Physical Damage (ideally over 155%). This will change your item to ‘Magic’ rarity.
- Apply a Perfect Orb of Augmentation to introduce an additional modifier. If the weapon already has a prefix and a suffix, you can skip this step.
- Use a Greater Essence of Abrasion to add Flat Physical Damage, upgrading the item to ‘Rare’ and ensuring an increase of 35-59 damage.
- The next step is to employ the Preserved Jawbone, while both Omen of the Liege and Omen of Sinistral Necromancy are active. This will grant you a Desecrated modifier, enhancing the weapon’s attributes.
- After that, unveil the mod at the Well of Souls; utilize the Omen of Abyssal Echoes for a re-roll if necessary. Look for the mod that grants (101–121)% increased Grenade Damage, a desirable Amanamu Prefix.
- Lastly, use the Exalted Orbs to fill all mod slots before applying the Perfect Essences. Remember that essences can remove existing mods, so proceed with caution.
- Apply the Perfect Essence of Haste to remove a random mod and gain a ‘(20-25)% Chance to Gain Onslaught on Killing Enemies with this Weapon’. Then, use the Perfect Essence of Battle to add a ‘+6 to all Level of Attack Skill’ modifier.
There is a risk that the Perfect Essence of Battle may remove the mod obtained from the Perfect Essence of Haste. You may need to retry this step to preserve essential modifiers. If things don’t go as planned, don’t hesitate to start the crafting process anew.
